Johnny Cass is a blues musician who has worked in the music industry for 22 years. Johnny is known for his 2 solo releases and 1 release under the name Sweet Lil Rider. All 3 releases reached top 10 in the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts as well. Johnny Cass is also know for touring, playing and promoting The Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters Tribute shows. Both these shows played major festivals and venues with some of Australia's biggest names in the blues scene.
Johnny Cass writes songs that bring a flavour of the American South with simple grooves and soulful lyrics inspired by the blues legends
Johnny is a currently working on a new release with Sydney Harmonica player Big Blind Ray called "Hill Country Boogie". Those of you that aren't familiar with the Hill Country style of blues, it is a blues made famous by RL Burnside, Junior Kimborough and Mississippi Fred McDowell. Also known as the "Hypnotic Boogie",  Hill Country Blues can send you into a trance and makes you wanna dance, makes you want to eat BBQ and drink white lighting moonshine and cheap beer.
Johnny Cass has created a musical place filled with the same hypnotic grooves of the Mississippi. A place where the air is thick and so are the grooves. In a world of full of millions of fingers playing the blues, this oasis that Johnny has created shimmers with liquid slide guitar lines, an oasis filled from the waters of Hill Country, Delta Blues, R'n'B, R'n'R and Soul.
Johnny has visited the Mississippi on a few occasions playing and spectating in juke joints and festivals. This is where he studied different regional styles of the mississippi blues. Amongst his travels he got to meet and play with Duwayne Burnside, Luther Dickinson (Nth Mississippi Allstars), Kenny Brown, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Terry Harmonica Bean, Watermelon Slim and met Blues legend Robert Johnson's family in Crystal Springs.
Apart from pumping out some liquid slide guitar and stomping Delta Blues, JC is no slouch in the kitchen. JC created world famous Sydney music venue The Vanguard. Created in 2003 Johnny and his wife Naomi played hosts to some of the biggest names in the blues and music world including Prince, Elvis Costello, Russell Crowe, The Finn Brothers, Jimmy Barnes, James Hunter Six, KT Tunstall. Johnny was head chef in the kitchen when The Vanguard won a Restaurant and Catering Award for best live music restaurant in Australia. Time Magazine mentioned as one of the top 10 places in the world to see live music!

Here is what musicians and reviewers are saying about Johnny Cass Band:
Sweet Lil Rider April 2015 Review.
4/5 stars - The Music Review.
Two guys, two Resonator guitars and a deep, informed passion for swamp/blues/boogie as it swam outta the Mississippi Delta and was transmogrified by white boys with electric guitars.

One guy is American – former Angels bass player Jim Hilbun. The other, Johnny Cass, avid champion of Robert Johnson, from the deep NSW mid-south coast. The result? Five stompin’ down-home cuts as you’d hear banged out on a porch somewhere in the Bayou, Mick Skelton adding a pinch of gutbucket thumping

“Johnny Cass has an uncanny ability of writing songs that meld tremolo-infused guitar based blues with the best of Southern US Rock, in the style of the Allman Brothers, The Band and Gov’t Mule.” Dom Turner (ARIA  Award winner and leader of BACKSLIDERS).

"Johnny Cass is a slide guitar cyclone" - Melbourne Blues Society
“From those guitar licks and powerhouse vocals Mr. Swamp Blues had the crowd eating out of his hands. He is a class act. He is just so damn good. “ - SYDNEY BLUES SOCIETY.”

I truly believe ‘Holdin’ On’ is worthy of being up there with eternal Australian songs such as ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ or ‘Flame Trees’. - John Hardaker, Orange Press.
